Polyglot has several meanings:
- The property of speaking multiple languages
- A polyglot is a person who can speak many languages
- A polyglot is a book that contains the same text in more than one language, usually a Bible such as the Complutensian Polyglot Bible
- A polyglot is a language that is a combination of other languages
- A polyglot is a computer program that is valid in more than one programming language
- Polyglot may also refer to an amalgam of languages, such as those created when groups of people who speak different languages spend extended periods of time together. (see: Pidgin)
- The term linguist is often used to refer to a polyglot. But this usage should be distinguished from the use of linguist to refer to someone knowledgeable about the scientific study of language, linguistics.
