Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish State Railways, PKP) SA is the dominant company in PKP Group. PKP SA has 100% share control in all companies in PKP Group and is fully responsible for managing them.

The company was founded in 2001 after dividing Polskie Koleje Państwowe (all-national rail operator) into several dozen companies to meet European Union standards.

All other companies belonging to the group are dependent on PKP SA, but plans for privatisation are in progress.

Total length of rails in Poland managed by PKP but owned by the state is 23,429 km.
