"Politics" (Part 2 of 4) is an episode from Season 1 of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1.

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Senator Kinsey arrives at SGC planning to shut the program down as it represents a 'colossal waste of money'. Despite the testimony of SG-1 and Hammond, the Senator orders the program terminated immediately. Even Jackson's assertion that the Goa'uld are about to attack Earth has no effect on Kinsey, who insists that God will protect America and the Goa'uld will be no match for the US military.

[edit] Notes

  • This episode is largely a clip show containing scenes from previous episodes as a way to save money for the upcoming finale Within The Serpent's Grasp.
  • After the Senator dismisses the threat of a Goa'uld attack fleet, Jackson sarcastically says 'We'll just upload a virus into their mothership'. This is a reference to the film Independence Day (which was written and directed by the same duo that wrote/directed the Stargate film) .
  • The beginning of this episode contains yet another reference to The Wizard of Oz when O'Neil comically remarks "And you were there, and you were there, and there's no place like home..."
  • This episode features the first appearance of Ronny Cox as Robert Kinsey.
