Polebrook

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Polebrook is a village in the east of the English county of Northamptonshire.

[edit] History

There has been proof that the town of Polebrook dates back to 4000 BC [1], and was a small Grecian farming town. The farms were mainly centered around the modern day town of Ashton. Polebrook is called Pochebroc in the Domesday Book[2], and was the centre of a large administrative area (the Polebrook Hundreds).

There was also a wooden church there which supposedly outdated the Church of All Saints. The 351st Bomber Group was stationed at the airfield near Polebrook during World War II, and the flag of the United States hangs as a memorial to the men, along with a roll of honour in the church. The airfield is now disused, but remains a rich part of Polebrook culture; the church has been replaced by the Polebrook Church.
