I like this pic, but I can not validate the legal status, and it should be removed until that is sorted to an admins satisfaction, or consensus. There are suitable alternatives that can be validated. Mozasaur 18:47, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
This looks incredibly like one of my photos, but I don't have access to my whole archive right now. It's not large enough for me to clearly recognize it. If it's mine it would have been taken in late winter 2005. I have a photo or two I'd be willing to PD for the commons anyway. Joseph N Hall 23:47, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oh! From the link below, I see that this was taken on January 18 2005. January 18 was a spectacular solar weather day in 2005. There were two strong X-flares in the days preceding that set up an excellent night of auroras that were visible well into the 48 states. It wasn't the most spectacular day of the season in Fairbanks, but it was one of the two best of the season in general in the Northern Hemisphere. The location is apparently somewhere on Eielson AFB in Fairbanks, which is not the place I took a photo that looks very similar, but I think I may have a photo of that exact formation in the sky taken from a spot about 15 miles to the north.
