Point of interaction

Point of interaction (POI) A component (hardware and software) to be hosted in an acquiring equipment to enable a cardholder to perform physically a card transaction at a retailer’s place on both attended and unattended terminals. The new generation of POI systems will be designed in such a way as to also accept non-card initiated transactions (e.g. mobile phone or PDA initiated payments), provided that the same high level of security is ensured by the equipment.
