Poikilocyte

A poikilocyte is used to refer generally to an irregularly-shaped erythrocyte of any sort - e.g. teardrop cell, spur cell, burr cell, target cell, acanthocyte, etc. These nonuniform red blood cells are typically seen in settings of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), microvascular damage, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
