Podsolisation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Podsolisation is the removal in solution of iron and aluminium down the soil profile.

The process can occur in areas where precipitation is greater than evapotranspiration. The minerals are removed by a process known as leaching. It can be contrasted by the process of salinisation which occurs where evapotranspiration is greater than the amount of precipitation. This causes the deposition of salts.
