[edit] Welcome!

Hi fellow Wikipedian, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: (~~~~). This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =) Mailer Diablo 06:18, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Knox (flash artist)

I withdrew my nomination for deletion on Knox (flash artist) since I located a bio of him on IMDB, which establishes notability enough for my purposes. --CrypticBacon 06:26, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

P.P.S. If you see any horrible vandalism on either my User page or my Talk page, please fix it, 'cause I sure won't be able to. --JoeBlowfromKokomo 17:56, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I saw (and rode) the legendary wiki-wiki bus after which wikipedia and other wikis are named.

I'm Back! I arrived home two days ago but was to lazy to add this in until now. I also have moved my log of my vacation in Hawaii to what is currently the bottom of my talk page and gave it the aptly named title "Hawaiian Vacation Log". I am also removing the redirect from my user page (it redirected to my talk page). --JoeBlowfromKokomo 19:13, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:0905 tea sandwich.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:0905 tea sandwich.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Rock opera

I agree with your point on the opera talk page. I'm arguing with the opera project guy about it. See the opera talk page. Perhaps you can give examples of the most "operatic" rock operas that would satisfy them? I suggest ones with no dialogue, heavy orchestration and as many other similarities with traditional opera as you can think of. Regards --Ssilvers 17:45, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I've added another comment so far, but I still have not mentioned any "operatic rock operas". Perhaps Wagnerian rock should be mentioned? --Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis 04:06, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I thought that what you wrote was very good.
Sorry, when I said "operatic", I meant shows that are written in a more opera-like structure rather than a musical-comedy style. For instance, Jesus Christ, Superstar is more of an opera than Hair, because the music is written more like an opera with arias, scenas, connecting "recitative" and other musical similarities to opera, and because the emotional content of the opera is expressed in the singing and the musical score, rather than in dialogue scenes. I would suggest Jesus Christ, Superstar, Les Mis, Evita, Tommy (was this ever performed onstage, or just as a movie?), Streets? Chess? You know a lot more of the rock operas than I do, but I just wanted to point out that we should probably focus on the shows with a really dramatic story, told MOSTLY through the music, written with operatic musical conventions (aria, recitative, scena, complex ensembles), little or no dialogue, characters with conflict, have been produced ONSTAGE (or capable of being produced without any changes), etc. Best regards, Ssilvers 21:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Its OK, I understood what you meant, I just couldn't find any Operatic Operas :). I'm pretty sure Tommy was just a movie, but I've heard that The Wall will someday be performed on Broadway. --Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis 22:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Bahaha, you got me with the new messages thing. Nicely done M.C. Brown Shoes 06:57, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

What are the examples of Wagnerian Rock? Have they been staged, or are they capable of being staged? Note that one of the examples I gave was Tanz der Vampire, which I am guessing is Wagnerian Rock? But I don't know of any other examples that have been, or are likely to be, staged? BTW, I think you gave up too easily on the opera talk page. I think that once Kleinzach admitted that the only problem he has with rock operas is that the singing is miked, we were one step closer to showing that rock opera is, indeed, opera. Regards, Ssilvers 22:44, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Tanz der Vampire is indeed Wagnerian. I'm pretty sure Bat out of Hell is Wagnerian, as well as Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell and The Monster is Loose: Bat Out of Hell III (when it comes out, which it will). In fact, most of the works of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are Wagnerian. --Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis 04:12, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Ooh, I think I may have left him out on the Opera talk page, but Frank Zappa would probably be a good example (he's not Wagnerian, but his work seems like the kind that would please the Opera purists who reject Rock Opera on the Opera page). --Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis 04:22, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I don't think we will ever get anywhere with the opera page unless we limit the discussion to operas that have actually been staged as a costumed stage performance (whether live or on film). I don't think concept albums will get us anywhere. That's why I gave the list I did on the opera talk page. All of those shows have been performed for large audiences in costume with stage lighting, etc. and have as many of the characteristics of opera as I could think of. Also, if you give an example, it needs a Wiki page explaining why it has all these characteristics of opera, otherwise the opera people can't see why it's opera. From the Bat out of Hell pages, it looks like those are just albums. Regards, Ssilvers 17:08, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Thecountingcrows.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Thecountingcrows.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
