[edit] A welcome
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- If you haven't already, please add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page. I always enjoy answering questions if I can!
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
[edit] Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004
You may be interested in a last-ditch attempt to save User:Pgreenfinch's endangered article European Union Olympic medals count for 2004 which is on a subpage page of VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004. Because this is a subpage it may not be noticed by those scanning the regular VfD page. Recent votes to keep appear to be sock-puppets or people who have become users only to support this article. You may wish to add your vote or comments or both. Jallan 13:18, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Interesting how things such as this can really get under one's skin... :) Read up a bit, and voted. Thanks for the info. Seems that people with very odd ideas about what should go where are also tremendously stubborn about it, and really bad at arguing their case. PMcM 14:15, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] long post at the end of Category talk:Birmingham, England
wow... such a long post but so well written. That's exactly what I've thought about the subject but you put it so well and so nicely too! Good for you. You, sir (or madam), are a prince (or princess) among diplomats. I hope it has some effect. MDCore 13:54, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] 6.9 question
Hi! Brock Yates did, in fact, drive a 6.9 down the Atlantic coast from Manhattan all the way to Atlanta and drove it around the track in the condition it arrived in short of necessary tire pressure adjustments. The article became part of the special factory promotional literature used by Mercedes-Benz dealers and sales reps. Hope this helps. - Lucky 6.9 01:43, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Aha! Saw the problem. Looks like a chunk of text was cut out either by mistake or by a vandal when it was on the featured article page. Either way, I've fixed it. Thanks!! - Lucky 6.9 01:48, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Hills infobox / maps
A template would be nice, but I don't know how to go about making one! I'm quite happy to see Landranger added to the boxes, though obviously this would take quite a bit of work. If you start, I'll join in! Grinner 09:02, Jan 19, 2005 (UTC)
I've done a template: template:infobox_british_hills, and tried it out on Braeriach. Thoughts? Grinner 11:33, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)
Glad you liked the template! I'll link in metres and feet as you suggest. Will start adding to hills myself. Grinner 10:19, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)
- Done the Munros, but the inpofbox doesn't work for hilss wiothout an image or where there are two summits on one page. Will make new templates for these cases.Grinner 11:10, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)

This survey has now been completed. Although the link below still works, but the form can no longer be submitted. — PMcM 15:36, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Original request
If you're interested in being interviewed for a University study I am in the middle of, about why you contribute to Wikipedia, please make yourself a sub-heading and provide some sort of contact details (AIM/AOL/iChat, talk page, IRC, e-mail, Yahoo! or MSN). If you'd rather not provide contact details here, feel free to e-mail me. My address is available either through the regular Wikipedia mechanisms, or on the survey page, linked below.
Further details regarding my survey can be found at http://www.petermcm.dircon.co.uk/msc/ . — PMcM 14:26, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Interviewees
[edit] Mgm
If you can manage to be on MSN the same time I am I'd be happy to help you out with an interview regarding your project. Mgm|(talk) 19:02, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Great! Thanks. (Full reply at User talk:MacGyverMagic.) — PMcM 20:32, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Username is MacGyverMagic (AT) hotmail (dot) com. Mgm|(talk) 20:34, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
I'll be unavailable from Friday to Monday because of a yearly family outing. Also, I'm usually available to MSN after 19:30 (Amsterdam time - GMT +1:00). If you want to schedule a chat, please contact me in advance so I can plan it. Mgm|(talk) 20:47, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Excellent, thanks! I'm sure we can fit something in, as I'm pretty flexible time-wise. Also, it shouldn't take long. — PMcM 21:48, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Scratch the previous comment. I made a mistake and I will be unavailable next month. Plenty of time this weekend. Sorry. Mgm|(talk) 07:11, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC)
- No problem, I'll keep an eye out for you online. Thanks again. — PMcM 14:26, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Someone did add me to their buddy list, and since I don't use MSN often I expect it was you. I think you just weren't online when I tried over the weekend. Are you online tonight? How long would the interview take? I think I can be online today starting after diner between 18:00 and 19:00 GMT (which I think is one hour ahead of UTC because of daylight saving's time). Can you make it then?
Yes, it's me, I just forgot to sign. :) Mgm|(talk) 07:45, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, that should work fine. The interview seems to take between 10 and 30 minutes, mostly depending on how fast you type, and how long your answers are! (As a point of interest GMT and UTC are the same, and never have daylight savings added. The UK is either in GMT (during winter) or BST (British summer time) when the clocks go forwards during summer. Very confusing... — PMcM 14:18, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The transcript is okay. Feel free to contact me again if you need to. Mgm|(talk) 21:05, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)
- Great! Thanks for all your help. — PMcM 22:34, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aha!
I'd love to interview *you* about the survey you're doing, since I'm doing something similar... +sj + 22:38, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi,
- Yep, I read it. Thank you for publishing the full transcripts of conversations with other wikipedians.

[edit] The hill infoboxes
Anything to add to the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mountains/General#From_Template_talk:Infobox_british_hills_.28no_image.29 as regrds the infoboxes we use for hill articles? Grinner 09:43, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Graphics Lab
I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! The infrastucture is already in place, and now we need participants. :) --Zantastik talk 02:07, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
