[edit] Summary of the 2006/07 season:
After only eight months as manager, during which he was credited with saving Argyle from relegation, Tony Pulis left the club on June 14, to return to Stoke. Two weeks later, formerQPR manager Ian Holloway, was appointed manager.
Holloway moved quickly to address the team's lack of strikers (only one senior striker, Nick Chadwick was present) by adding veteran Barry Hayles from Millwall and 20 year-old Sylvan Ebanks-Blake from Manchester United to Nick Chadwick. Young strikers Cherno Samba andReuben Reid got modest playing time in the first part of the season. In midfield, first-year Luke Summerfield impressed with the winning goal against Colchester and in other matches, but he still struggled to find a starting place amongst five more seasoned mid-fielders, Wotton, Nalis, Buzsáky, Norris and Hodges (who missed much of September and all of October to injury). The addition of Dutch defender Marcel Seip, who scored in his first full start against Norwich provided competition to Aljofree andDoumbe in central defense. In goal, Luke McCormick got first team action with Romain Larrieu out with an infection and a cancer scare (which was resolved in mid-September) and through good performances kept his place.
The first third of the season saw a fairly good start to the Championship with six wins, seven draws, and only two losses, and an early exit from the Carling Cup against division two Walsall. Holloway's signings, enthusiasm and more attacking style appeared to be lifting team performances from the previous season and the team was in 6th place after 15 games. A third away win at the end of September saw Argyle match its away wins for the entire 2005-6 season. The possibility of getting to the play-off for promotion to the premiership, something no one considered seriously for the current season, began to be talked about.
The lack of depth in the Argyle squad showed mid-season as accumulation of suspensions and injuries (including Paul Wotton out for the season with a knee injury) forced Holloway to draw ever deeper into reserves, and with a slide in results and position, although 13th was the lowest position for Argyle all season.
In January, Holloway moved aggressively during the January transfer window, bringing in five new players, striker Kevin Gallen from QPR, Hungarians Peter Halmosi (midfield) and Krisztián Timár (defense) (both with summer transfer options), 17-year old England U-18 forward Scott Sinclair from Chelsea F.C. and tall forward Rory Fallon in a record tieing £300,000 transfer from Swansea. Suddenly, Argyle had a 29-man squad including eight strikers competing for two slots. Performances improved but not sufficiently to boost Argyle up the table and by March the gap between Argyle and the teams competing for play off berths began to look unsurmountable.
However, Argyle had an excellent FA Cup run making it into the Quarter Finals before losing 0-1 against Watford, the farthest any non-premiership team made it.

12 Green Army is not a real player, but was registered by the club as a tribute to the supporters. The idea behind assigning the number 12 was that the great support from fans gives Argyle a similar advantage to having an extra (twelfth) player.

[edit] Pre Season Results
The pre-season saw wins over Tiverton (4-0), Grays Athletic (3-0), FC Gratkorn (5-1), and Yeovil (2-0) and losses to Real Madrid (0-1) and Bristol Rovers (0-1). A pre-season altercation between first-year Chris Zebroski and team captain, mid-fielder Paul Wotton in a Austrian bar resulted in 100 stitches to Wotton's head and the sacking of Zebroski. Wotton recovered for the first game of the season.
