Pljeskavica (Serbian Cyrillic: Пљескавица) is a Serbian hamburger and national dish.
Pljeskavica originates from Serbia but is also made in Bosnia and Croatia and can be found in Slovenia, Hungary, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Montenegro. Traditional pljeskavica was made from a mixture of lamb and beef, grilled along with onions and served hot on fresh somun with a thick pita bread. The best pljeskavica is said to be made in the town of Leskovac, Serbia.[citation needed]
Pljeskavicas have gained popularity in Europe and are served at many fast-food restaurants, mainly in Germany and Austria.
Pljeskavica is best served with Kaymak or Ajvar and sometimes Urnebes.
