Plenty is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Nillumbik. Plenty is a relatively semi-rural area consisting mostly of large lots with many being several acres in size. However increasing urbanisation is evident near the border with the suburb of Greensborough. New housing estates are being established with the population in the area set to increase however large areas of Plenty are still relatively untouched with development limited due to being in the green wedge.

[edit] Main features and attractions

The main features of Plenty include the Greensborough hockey club and Plenty War Memorial Park on Yan Yean Rd. The Plenty River makes up the border between Mill Park and Plenty. The blue lake located within Yellow Gum Park is nearby and is a popular swimming spot on hot days however the park is closed off to visitors on total fire ban days due to the fact that it is considered one of the most high risk fire danger areas in Australia. The Plenty Gorge Parklands conservation area within Plenty and Mill Park is accesible by permission only. The Plenty Views Golf Park and Cielo Blue cafe are also located on Yan Yean Rd.

[edit] Transport

The main arterial running through Plenty is Yan Yean Road. Increased pressure is being placed on this road as it is used primarily by commuters travelling between the city and new estates in Doreen including Laurimar. Two bus routes run along Yan Yean Rd both operated by Dysons and include the 563 and 520. The Closest train station is Diamond Creek on the Hurstbridge line however an extension of the Epping line to South Morang north of Mill Park being considered will give commuters another option of travelling into the city and nearby suburbs.

Plenty continues to grow while trying to retain its semi-rural character however increased urbainsation of surrounding suburbs will soon determine how long this will last. The convenience of being able to live in such a quiet area while being so close to the bustling metropolis of Melbourne is a privledge and real estate prices in the area reflect this.
