Plenoptic illumination function

The plenoptic illumination function is an idealized function used in computer vision and computer graphics to express the image of a scene from any possible viewing position at any viewing angle at any point in time. It is never actually used in practice, and is more useful in understanding other concepts in vision and graphics. For example, a still-frame camera is able to capture a subset of the plenoptic function - a fixed field of view from a specific position, angle, and time. A video camera is able to capture a larger subset of the plenoptic function - a possibly varying field of view from a trajectory in space and time. The plenoptic function is, in this sense, the 'God camera' which is able to capture the image of anything from anywhere at any point in time.
