Playing The Field was a BBC television drama series which ran for five series from 1998 - 2002. It followed the mainly off the field lives of a women's football team, the Castlefield Blues and was written by, amongst others, Kay Mellor. Although the series was based in South Yorkshire, it was actually filmed in the town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire.
The cast included the likes of James Nesbitt, John Thomson, Lesley Sharp, Ricky Tomlinson and Debra Stephenson. Another cast member, Marsha Thomason, found fame in the U.S., starring in the show Las Vegas.
