Play DJ was a text based quiz show which aired weekdays from 6pm and weekends from 10am. It used the same software as ITV Playalong but with a studio presenter and music played during the longer games. Unlike Playalong, Play DJ featured a Chat Bar for viewers to fill up with their own texts. The show ran a stream of Buzzwords, Izit, Quiz and Codebreaker throughout and offers cash prizes on mini studio games such as Mini Bingo, Pick a Pair and Guestimate. Play DJ is no longer as the ITV Play channel has shut down.

[edit] Games

[edit] Buzz Words

This game is similar to Channel 4's Countdown letters rounds. Nine letters are given and the viewer must find as many words as they can out of those letters. There is always a nine-letter word that can be made out of the letters given. If a player gets a word before anyone else does, they get double points for it. On Play DJ mini-buzzwords is regularly played.

[edit] Izit?

This game is based on the classic paper game Hangman. A phrase has to be guessed as soon as possible. A clue is given to the answer and there are spaces where the letters go. Viewers can text in letters or the whole phrase if they know what it is.

[edit] String 'Em In

This game features only on ITV Playalong

String 'Em In has a grid of letters and is a bit like the game Boggle. Viewers make words that link together and they get more points for unusual letters, such as Q and Z. Points are doubled if they use the bonus letter which changes frequently. On occasion the highest scoring word found so far is removed and replaced with new letters.

[edit] Space Wars

This game features only on ITV Playalong

Space Wars started showing on Monday 7th August 2006. This game is based on a Space Invaders style game. To shoot the invaders, the viewers text in an angle (0°-360°) and a missile is shot out of base at that angle. The players player name is shown above the missile so they know what missile is theirs. If they hit, they get points.

[edit] Quiz Time

In this game, there are 5 questions and viewers must text the letter which corresponds to their answer 'A, B, or C'. You get more points by texting in a correct answer in a quick time. The player with the most points at the end of the 5 questions was originally given £10 (on ITV Playalong), but this has now been replaced with the Bonus Ball Bonanza. On Play DJ, any of the top ten scorers could play a mini studio game.

[edit] Prizes

After each game, the presenter will randomly select a hi-scorer to come through to the studio. This player automatically is guaranteed a prize of £20 (£30 on Play DJ Late). They then have a choice of two studio games to win up to £1000

During the day, players are picked by picking a numbered ball out of a bag On Play DJ Late, the 'Wheel of Wonga' is used to select a player.

On ITV Playalong, all prizes are determined by the outcome of the Bonus Ball Bonanza and there are no other prize avenues.

[edit] ITV Playalong Live

For three months prior to Play DJ launching in November 2006, Nigel Mitchell provided voiceover for ITV Playalong under the tagline "Playalong Live". This used exactly the same software and music as regular Playalong bar the regular stock voiceovers. This version of Playalong introduced the chatbar to all the games featured bar Space Invaders. Play DJ would later take this to its logical conclusion with a in-vision studio based production wrapped round the Playalong software.

[edit] Bonus Ball Bonanza

This prize applies on all Playalong games only, it is not used on Play DJ. The top 10 scorers are entered into a lottery draw. The hi-scorers get 5 random numbers sent to them by text. These numbers are used in the draw and there are 25 balls in total. If viewers match four balls they win £100, five balls they win £2000. Previously the Bonanza gave away £10 for matching three balls, and under Playalong live gave away £2 for matching two balls.
