Platinum Technology

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Platinum Technology Inc. was founded by Andrew Filipowski to market and support deployment of Database Management software products and the applications enabled by database management technology and render related services. The company was also involved with a group known as the UML Partners in the development of UML, or Unified Modeling Language. It acquired several notable companies, including fellow UML Partner ICON Computing, Locus Computing Corporation and Protosoft.

In May 1999, Platinum with a billion dollars of revenue and the 8th largest software enterprise globally was itself acquired by Computer Associates (CA) for 4.0 billion U.S. dollars. In 2001, CA was sued by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), alleging that the two companies prematurely reduced competition between each other. The DOJ claimed that this was achieved by agreeing to limit discounts offered to customers before the deal was completed.
