Planula

A planula is the free-swimming, flattened, ciliated, bilaterally symmetric larva of a hydrozoan cnidarian or ctenophores. It navigates through the water until it reaches a hard substrate where it anchors and grows into a polyp. Planulas are unable to feed themselves.
