Planet Gemini

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Planet Gemini was founded in 1997 by Hellion (Guitar/Vocals) and Josh (Bass) in Boston, Massachusetts as a band that gives their music away over the internet for free. Their first "Official" release 13 (released on July 13th 2002) was made available for download along with album artwork, inlay art and CD label art for their fans to print up themselves. Their sophomore release Cauldron of Fuzz was recorded from leftovers of the 13 album and was originally slated to be an EP. The original plan was for them to go into the studio and record all night to put 3 new songs onto the EP for their own collection. They wrote 5 songs the first night and followed it up the next weekend. Without any sleep they improvised another whole album and would continue the tradition of writing the Cauldron of Fuzz albums under heavy sleep deprivation.

In July of 2006 Josh decided to part ways with the Planet Gemini project causing Hellion to continue the band on his own. Now a one man project Planet Gemini's album "Legacy" has been canceled (due to the fact that the album was supposed to celebrate 10 years of H & Josh's music). On October 31st of 2006 Hellion released Cauldron of Fuzz IV: The Finale for download on the bands official webpage. It was a collection of all unfinished demos and he and Josh worked on. This album is slated to be the last Cauldron of Fuzz album and will never be completed out of respect for the previous band member.

Hellion is still writing music and "Wicked" will be released in the summer of 2007. He is also working with Trouble drummer Oly Olson on a side project called The HOLY Project which will be a jam album much like the old Cauldron of Fuzz albums.

Planet Gemini produce a much more groove oriented doom metal that is more Mid-Tempo breaking the traditional rules of slowed down doom metal. Influences include Black Sabbath, Trouble, Candlemass...
