Is that pronunciation correct? Thats not the way I would pronounce it according to the accent mark. I don't have Spanish expertise, though.

corrected. [[User:Ktsquare|I.H.S.V. [[User_talk:Ktsquare|talk]]]] 10:56, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I was about to ask the same thing. The pronunciation given in official media guides specifies that it is pla-SEE-do, not PLA-ci-do as you would expect. If the media guides are correct, then the spelling "Plácido Polanco" is wrong, and it should be "Placido Polanco" instead. Does anyone know for sure? -- Dominus 04:20, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

The MLB official page now says "PLAH-si-doh", but earlier pages said "pluh-SEE-doh"; this one is an example, as is this cached copy of the offical MLB information. The official media guides of the Phillies and the Cardinals also gave "pluh-SEE-do", and that's how the ballpark announcers pronounced it while Polanco was playing for the Cardinals and the Phillies. More research is necessary. -- Dominus 20:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Here, for example, is a page written in Spanish, which includes correct accent marks for many of the proper names, but spells Polanco's name with no accent. This is only one of many such pages. Many Spanish-language pages do include the accent, but this might be a misspelling, since the accentless spelling is very unusual. -- Dominus 20:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
I speak decent Spanish and fixed the IPA. Should I add stress marks yet? The current name would be PLA-see-do, not pla-SEE-do. Bellito 22:10, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
