Pizza Pops are a calzone-type snack produced by Pillsbury brand of General Mills. Pizza Pops are sold pre-cooked and frozen. Typically they are reheated in a microwave oven but they may also be cooked in a regular oven.

They come in several varieties such as "Three Meat", "Pepperoni", "Pepperoni & Bacon", "Deluxe", "Canadian" and "Three Cheese". All varieties of Pops contain pizza sauce and meat or cheese. They may also contain vegetables such as green peppers or mushrooms.

Pizza Pops are available only in Canada. Chili Pops and Veggie Pops were also available at some point in time.

In November 2006 Pillsbury launched a promotion for Pizza Pops. One may find a coupon for a free 2L bottle of Barq's root beer.

[edit] Controversy

The composition and nature of Pizza Pops has lead to several injuries over the past few years. When cooked in a microwave, the filling has the tendency to become much hotter then expected, particularly in the Pepperoni and Bacon varieties. When one end of the Pizza Pop is bitten, the other end can burst and spill hot ingredients onto the arms or lap of the consumer. Several people have experienced 1st and 2nd degree burns. A lawsuit launched in 2005 has been settled out of court.
