Pittsburgh Rebels

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pittsburgh Rebels were a professional baseball club in the short-lived Federal League, which was a minor league in 1913 and a full-fledged outlaw major league the next two years. Originally called the Pittsburgh Stogies after an earlier Pittsburgh team, the team changed its name in the middle of the 1914 season when outfielder Rebel Oakes took over as manager.

In 1914, the Rebels finished in seventh place with a 64-86 record. During the 1915 season, the team finished in third position with an 86-67 mark, 0.5 games behind first place.

Some Rebels players had American and National leagues experience, including pitchers Cy Barger and Howie Camnitz.

The Rebels played at Exposition Park on Pittsburgh's Northside. After the Rebels, Expo Park was demolished and its property became part of the rail yards.
