Pirus or the Piru Street Gang is an African-American street gang based out of Compton, California.

In 1972 a meeting was called on 142nd street to form an alliance with Piru street gang such as the Compton Piru's,the LA Brims to put a stop to the {crabs} also known as the Crips street gang, with whom the Pirus rivaled. This united organization eventually became known as the Bloods. Today, a majority of Blood sets are located in Compton. There are also designated "Piru" sets. The(WSP)West Side Piru, (CPP) Campanella Park Piru and ETC. The Bloods formed from the Piru gang in 1972 at Centennial High School, taking the name "Piru" because of the Street which is one of the street names in the neighborhood that border from 142nd Street on the north to Rosecrans Ave on the south, Compton creek on the east and Main Street on the north in Compton, California. The group formed to protect members and defend their middle-class neighborhoods from being terrorized and shot up by the Compton Crips and Crips from South Central L.A.. Other gangs with the same motive started using the Pirus’ and Bloods’ names to signify alignment with the main gang. Though most Blood gangs basically wear red, Piru gangs can sometimes be seen with burgundy bandannas and clothing to represent their gang.
