Piracy is theft

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Piracy is theft" was a slogan used by FAST.[1][2] It was first used in the 1980s and has since then been used by other similar organisations such as MPAA[3].

The slogan is compared with Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's "Property is theft!" for ironic value.

Logically and legally, copyright infringement is not theft: those taken to court for copyright infringement are not prosecuted under laws banning theft of property.
