The Pinute or Pinuti is a Filipino sword, which is long, straight, and well balanced. It is a variation of the agricultural bolo machete and is a popular sword of the Visayan warriors of Cebu, Negros, Leyte, and Bohol. It is wielded with one hand. It is sharp and pointed and is designed for slashing as well as thrusting. Its length (from hilt to tip) is, on the average, about as long as an arm. The main part of the blade is colored black but along its edge it is white (puti in Tagalog). It is for this white strip that, some theorize, it is called pinuti.
