Pinback is an indie rock band from San Diego currently signed to Ace Fu Records. The band was formed in 1998 by singers, songwriter and multi-instrumentalists Armistead Burwell Smith IV (a.k.a. Zach) and Rob Crow.
The name Pinback is a reference to the whiny janitor in the film Dark Star (played by Dan O'Bannon, who also co-wrote the film). Samples from this film are used frequently in the band's early works.
