[edit] Plot

When sixteen year old Rory Gilmore is accepted to the prestigious prep school Chilton, her young mother Lorelai, who has raised her daughter alone and is a hotel manager, struggles to find money to pay for her tuition. So she asks her estranged parents for a loan. They agree, but only on one condition—she and Rory have to eat dinner with her parents every Friday evening. When Rory meets a young guy named Dean at school, she isn't sure if she should change schools. When Lorelai discovers that the reason why Rory does not want to go to Chilton is because of a boy, they argue about her future. However, Rory makes up with her mother and decides to go to Chilton after all when she realizes the sacrifice her mother has made in agreeing to end the estrangement with her grandparents.

[edit] Trivia

Rory and Lane in the Kims' antique shop, from the pilot of Gilmore Girls.

Interestingly enough, when we see Rory and Lane enter Kim's Antiques (owned by Lane's mother), there is a label on the door that says that Mrs. Kim accepts Interac, the Canadian debit system. Of course, this is Stars Hollow, Connecticut, so this would sound unusual seeing that the Interac system is non-existent except in Canada. It's likely a continuity error that comes from the pilot being shot in the Metro Toronto area.
