Pillbox hat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pillbox hat is a small woman's hat with a flat crown and straight, upright sides. Perhaps the most famous example is the pink pillbox, designed by Halston, that Jacqueline Kennedy wore on the day her first husband was assassinated.

Historically, the pillbox was also a military headgear, and can still be seen on ceremonial occasions in some countries, especially those belonging to the Commonwealth. The military version often includes a chin strap. The Royal Military College of Canada dress uniform includes a pillbox hat.Royal Military College of Canada uniform]

Pillbox hats are mentioned in the song "Leopard-Skin Pillbox-Hat" by the folk artist Bob Dylan. The song first appeared on his 1966 album "Blonde on Blonde."
