Pillán

The Pillan (of the language mapudungun and Spanish Pillán) is a powerful and respected masculine spirit in the Mapuche mythology.
The Pillans (pillanes) are mainly a good spirits, but it can also cause disasters. It has been described as a spirits living inside the volcanoes and sometimes the volcano itself. Mostly of the Pillans, seems to been of human nature, they were once humans. The accompanying feminine spirits of the Pillans are the wangulén.
The word Pillán forms part of diferent places, including the now iactive Quetrupillán Volcano.
