[edit] Birmingham 2
Hi Andy. User:195.92.67.xx is a new user who is getting quite frustrated with the fact you and an anon ip (which may be you?) keep removing his work. Please could you explain your deletions on talk:Birmingham, such as why Nick Mason can not be mentioned in the article etc to prevent the need for the continued edit war between this user and those who are removing the information. Thanks. Angela. 20:36, May 14, 2004 (UTC)
- Done, in the Birmingham History. He's been quite abusive, and I've only removed /parts/ of his work where it's been wrong, or irrelevant. I've also corected a lot of his grammar and spelling. Nick Mason, since you ask, is no more a "Birmingham musician" than a weekend in Amsterdam makes me a Dutchman. Andy Mabbett 20:46, 14 May 2004 (UTC)

- Oh Hi Andy,
-
- at last i can put a name to the person that has been deleting at free will some of my work, i certainly wouldn't lower myself to abuse anyone on an internet website but i am indeed becoming quite frustrated with your lack of respect for my work. Nick Mason was born in Birmingham, he is from the city and that is fact. You obviously don't like this fact so you choose to remove it, then you look around and start deleting and editing other work and it certainly isn't my grammar that atracts you to this page is it now.
- Please, to save this getting out of hand i will change it to Nick Mason from Pink Floyd was born in Birmingham... there that makes perfect sense and is factual, i couldn't really care a damn whether he thinks as himself as from Birmingham or the Moon for that matter, he was born in the city and that is all i am saying.
- Thanks
- Nick.
-
-
- So long as you present untruths as facts, I'll have no respct for them. Nick Mason is NOT "from Birmingham"; Nick Mason is NOT a "Birmingham musician". Andy Mabbett 12:38, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

- So are you saying that Nick Mason was not born in Birmingham, please provide the evidence for this, otherwise i will begin mercilessly editing your work as well, sorry but it seems that is the only language you understand Andy. You didn't only delete Nick Mason but you changed the custard factory and removed Hip Hop facts also, you obviously have too much time on your hands and just for the record are you from Birmingham?
- Nick

Hmmm, I'm not sure if it's so important to be splitting hairs on a list at Birmingham on this. Wouldn't this concern be something to mention on Nick Mason instead? If you disagree, I'd be interested to hear your reasoning. :-) Kim Bruning 15:47, 15 May 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, it would be better not to mention his acceident of being born in Birmingham at all. Birmingham had no influence on him; and he none on Birmingham (strictly: no more so than any other musican and car driver who's passed through). He certainly doesn't belong aongside the others listed, who have been affected/ had such an effect. Andy Mabbett 15:51, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

- Ok, I understand your position. Kim Bruning 15:56, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

Erm.. excuse me but saying that Nick Mason being born in Birmingham was an accident is outragious and quite offensive, just who do you think you are Andy?
Whether you like it or not Nick Mason was born in Birmingham England full stop, and that is absolutely all i am stating, a famous musician born in Brum, [abuse removed Andy Mabbett 18:24, 15 May 2004 (UTC)]. I was born in Birmingham Andy, do you think that was an accident. [falacious cliam removed Andy Mabbett 18:24, 15 May 2004 (UTC)] is just encouraging me to actually correct your miss-informed edits even more. Nick
[edit] Editing other people's posts on talk
Andy, while normally it's ok to edit mercilessly, it's a bit less of a good idea to do so while you're tring to figure out a situation where 2 people have differing opinions on talk. (It's an exception to the rule, say.)
It gets rather tricky to see what's going on when you do that. While you might claim that something is true or untrue, well, the other person just happens to be claiming the opposite, so it's important for 3rd parties to be able to see both sides and then weigh them for themselves. When you edit comments, you're denying people that option, and making it hard for them to hold a civil conversation on the matter.
People tend to mind the latter more than that they mind seeing the occaisional untruth, or slightly less friendly statement. So, since we're all trying to cooperate on working on wikipedia, it's generally considered wiser to leave other peoples comments untouched (especially when in doubt). :-)
I hope that clears things up a bit! Kim Bruning 14:41, 17 May 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks Kim, i have absolutely no problem with Andy whatsoever but for some reason he wants to remove/delete, edit and move much of my work without discussing it first or voting on the discussion page which is how the Birmingham page works (and it does work). It is so disheartening to see so many deletions and changes and with no open 2-way discussion first. I hope Andy doesn't continue this way as it is putting me off from registering properly... what will be the point if my work is deleted randomely?
- I have stressed my points on the Birmingham discussion page, i don't want to fall out with Andy but i will not be pushed around, there are many editors on Birmingham and we need to stick together so as to produce a really good informative page that will make browsers want to read more.
- With respect Nick. :)
[edit] Blumin Nick Blumin Mason
Hi Andy, look i can't be bothered to keep changing the Birmingham page, the reason why i have been so peeved is that you have edited alot of my work and also deleted some of it, i find it interesting that you want to do this to someone that you don't even know but i don't dislike you for it, i kind of am intrigued why you feel that you must do this. If what you say about Nick Mason distancing himself from Birmingham is true and you can provide the proof then i would probably agree with you that he shouldn't be listed but even then it is worth while don't you think as a slap in the face to him, i have a very close friend who was born illegitimately in Birmingham and moved away early on and yet Brum plays a large part of his identity which i think could show how much merely being born somewhere can influence your life, i was born there and i feel very strongly about portraying Bham in a good light because of the city's unfair bad appearance since the concrete colar almost strangled the city and it's appearance to the nation and world in the 1960's, i love Britain and i love Birmingham and i also admire Pink Floyd, all i am stating is that Nick Mason was born in Birmingham and he is the longest serving member of Pink Floyd, that is all that i am saying and i think it is relevant because i wrote the article on modern music and it fits in, the truth is that if it catches someones eye then they might read an article that they otherwise wouldn't give the time of day but we all know that there ARE some fantastic musicians that hail from the city... can you see my point? i would never dream of deleting one of your articles unless i felt so strongly about it that it portrayed the city in a bad light and even then i would discuss it first out of respect to you! Please discuss this as i am genuinely interested in your opinion even after all that has gone on.
Nick
Still no reply, slightly rude don't you think Andy!

[edit] Observer Not the Guardian
Oh f***ing, f***ing d*g's ****s.
Thanks. I've put up a Q on the Wikipedia:Help desk to see if I can just rename the category and that gets reflected on all the entries or whether I have to go around and change all the ***ers myself. Cheers, though. Had to be done. --bodnotbod 23:32, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Birmingham transport history
Andy would you like to explain why you want to delete Birmingham transport history and merge it with History of Birmingham. I cannot find anywhere in the history of brum article where any of that content fits in with the rest of the article, and I have tried. Surely it is best in its own page. [edit] Ferry Cross the Mersey
I removed the reference to Ferry Cross the Mersey from River Mersey because its relevance is more suited to the Mersey Ferry entry, where its significance is already covered. It doesn't really bother me if you want to leave it back in, but to me it doesn't suit the article. -- Michael Warren 20:40, 17 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Regarding VFD and posting things quickly
As the title says, people often watch new pages or recent changes. A lot of chaff comes through there, and some of it gets vfd'ed. This is a necessary QC method. That being said, I am an inclusionist by trait, so I try and avoid deleting to many things. Burgundavia 05:08, Jun 20, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Residents of Birmingham
George Cadbury should be under C, not G, but not really understanding how categories work I don't seem to be able to correct it. Can you help please? Shantavira 07:08, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Thank you; that's done.

[edit] Gamgee
You are flat-out wrong about this. Do you want me to type in the quotes from The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien and Carpenters biography to prove it? Morwen - Talk 19:09, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Right, here you are
From letter 257
- "The choice of Gamgee was primarily directed by alliteration; but I did not invent it. It was caught out of childhood memory, as a comic word or name. It was in fact the name when I was small (in Birmingham) for 'cotton-wool'. (Hence the association of the Gamgees with the Cottons.) I knew nothing of its origin.

[edit] Birding with Bill Oddie
I notice that your creation of Birding with Bill Oddie had the edit summary "raw paste of material, used by permission". Might it be an idea to note on the Talk page where it's from and who gave permission? -- ALargeElk | Talk 15:53, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] 3 reverts within 24 hours.
You have broken the 3 reverts within 24 hours rule on Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan. Please revert to my previous version. If you strongly beleve that the article should match your last edit then please discuss the issue on the Peerage project talk page. Mintguy (T) 20:28, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] 195.92.67.76
I would advise you to attempt to reach a compromise with 195.92.67.76 over what the content of the pages Thin Lizzy and Traffic (band) instead of reverting wholesale edits made by him, as an edit war seems to be brewing. Thank you. -- Grunt (talk) 23:43, 2004 Jun 27 (UTC)
- Sadly, previous experience shows that to be almost certainly impossible. See Talk:Birmingham. Andy Mabbett 08:25, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] edits to 'Sexual slang'
I've undone your change to the heirarchy of Sexual slang because I think you intended to make 'Nocturnal emission' a subtopic of 'Ejaculation and semen', rather than the latter a subtopic of 'Pregnancy'. Please also disregard my "snarky" edit comments. :-) - dcljr 22:53, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
