Pietro Gilberto is a bodybuilder from New South Wales, Australia.
Gilberto first started competing in bodybuilding in 1979, having won Junior Mr Queensland. He went on to win Mr Queensland in 1985 after winning nearly every title in Australia with various bodybuilding organisations. He continued on to win Mr Australia in 1993 to earn a spot to compete at the Mr Universe title. He competed at this competition for 5 consecutive years, from Italy to Africa, and back to Italy, finally winning this title: Super Heavy Weight Mr Universe 1994 in Montecatini, Italy.
After retiring from bodybuilding he endeavoured to pursue fighting as a sport, winning a super heavy weight open titles bout in Pisa, Italy. When returning to Australia he started work as an actor, appearing in many films, and working at Movieworld on the Gold Coast. Having not been in the gym for many years, Pietro thought he started his bodybuilding career as a junior and would finish as a master. He then applied to compete in the masters Mr Olympia which he was told is only offered to those holding a pro card. To achieve this he competed in the masters pro qualifier in Australia three years until he achieved his goal, winning his IFBB pro card (2004). With this he only wanted to compete in the Masters Olympia, however, in a devastating twist this competition was cancelled due to political drama. Despite many injuries he decided to still compete in the IFBB pro Grand Prix (2005).
Gilberto continued to train for the Masters Pro in New York in 2006, competing in the Australian Grand Prix as a warm up, before an Achilles injury prevented him from competing in the New York show. He continues to train and says that after thirty years of competing and lifting massive amounts in powerlifting competitions, the injuries don't heal so quickly. He has trained many athletes to success and of recent has run a half marathon in 2 hours, 18 minutes, which he believes makes him the only professional bodybuilder to run a half marathon in this time. Pietro has been competing successfully over four decades (1970s-2000s) and looks forward to competing during a fifth.
