Pierre Philion

Pierre Philion is a Quebec politician in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. He is the councillor for the district of St-Raymond-Vanier in the Hull sector of the city.
Prior to his political career, Philion occupied several professional positions. He was previously a member of Hull's Commission Scolaire Outaouais-Hull (now Commission Scolaire des Portages-de-l'Outaouais | Portages de l'Outaouais) school board. He also worked at E.B. Eddy's mill and was also an insurance agent.
Phillion entered politics in 1995 by winning a seat in the former city of Hull's Council. After the amalgamation in 2002, Phillion was elected in St-Raymond-Vanier and re-elected in 2005.
Philion has been heavily involved in a project by the city of Gatineau of being the first smoke-free city in Quebec following a similar process by the City of Ottawa. He was the president of a committee called Gatineau: Ville sans fumée. However, the province had followed suite and implemented a province-wide smoking ban inside public places including restaurants, bars, bingo halls, community centres and other publics buildings. The city of Gatineau also plans to toughen the law by imposing a smoking ban inside a perimeter of less then 9 meters from public places (which are already implemented in some areas such as daycare centres and educational and health institutions and buildings).
Philion was a supporter of the Quebec Liberal Party and had participated in the campaign of current Hull MNA Roch Cholette who won the seat in the 2003 provincial election which made Jean Charest the new Prime Minister of Quebec. Philion also supported several project for the city made the provincial government including the province-wide smoking ban and the future Rapibus busway, a major project of the city's public transit operator the Société de transport de l'Outaouais.
