Pierre Klossowski
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pierre Klossowski (1905 – August 12, 2001) was a French writer, translator and artist.
Born in Paris in 1905, Pierre Klossowski wrote full length volumes on Marquis de Sade and Nietzsche, a number of essays on literary and philosophical figures, and five novels. He translated several important texts (by Virgil, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, Hölderlin, Kafka, Nietzsche, Benjamin) into French, worked on films and was also a painter, illustrating many of the scenes from his novels. Klossowski participated in most issues of Georges Bataille's review, Acéphale, in the late 1930s.
His book Nietzsche and the Vicious Circle and previous papers included within were a huge influence on French philosophers such as Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Jean-François Lyotard and many others.
He is the older brother of the artist Balthazar Klossowski, better known as Balthus.
