Pie Carver

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kirsten "Pie" Carver is a fictional character from the Mirror-Image worlds in the Stephen King and Richard Bachman Novels "Desperation" and "The Regulators," respectively. Her nickname of "Pie" is given to her by the two people on both Earths who love her dearly; her older brother David Carver on the Desperation Earth, and her husband David Carver on the Regulators Earth.

On the fictional Earth in which Desperation, Nevada is located, Kirsten Carver is the seven year-old, child of the Carver family and younger sister to David Carver; on the Regulators Earth, she is David Carter's happily married wife.

Moreover, in the setting of Desperation, Pie Carver is the daughter of Ellen Carver; in The Regulators, Pie Carver is Ellen Carver's mother.

[edit] Deaths

Kirsten "Pie" Carver is one of several characters who die in the settings of both books; many of the other main characters of the two books either survive in one book and die in the other, survive in both books, or are simply present on one Earth but not on the other.

In Desperation, the Tak-possessed Sheriff Collie Entragian kills her by pushing her down a flight of stairs (thereby breaking her neck) for no apparent reason apart from a possible desire to sink the remaining members of the family further into despair (as well as the possible reason that Tak's presence in living tissue rapidly burns out a host body and burns out physically smaller bodies much more rapidly than larger ones; as such, Pie's tiny frame would be of little or no use to him).

In The Regulators, Pie is attempting to take cover from a massive barrage of gunfire from the Regulators themselves, when a copper pot, struck by a high-powered, high velocity bullet, shatters into several pieces of copper shrapnel, which pierces her about the face and neck and lodges in her brain.
