A 100 year old color photo on beggars! Not often do you see these images. And the image seems striking a century later; Begging article contains this and the image is in PD.

  • That scan is a bit small, and it appears to have some ugly JPG artifacting. There's a green blob of some kind on the shoulder of the rightmost figure, as well. It's a unique photograph but has some problems. Snurks T C 18:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
  • In addition, a bit more info on the image page would be good. What exactly is the source of the original photo, who took it, and any other data you may have on it. Note that if it's an unpublished photo, it might not actually be public domain [1]. Hopefully the source also gives some definite statement that these are beggars, and not just some guys sitting against a wall. --Davepape 23:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't know about the image's source and the its info since I didn't upload it. Just thought it was a nice picture and put it up here. Idleguy 03:08, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
    • JyriL is right - it's Prokudin-Gorskii. The Library of Congress page for it is here, if someone wants to clean up and upload a higher-res copy (from the 39 MB archival tiff), and add the bibliographic information. --Davepape 14:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

      • I've uploaded a larger copy from the Library of Congress TIFF source (downsampled 50% to remove fuzziness, sharpened, and colour-corrected); if I feel really enthusiastic I may even remake it from the 3-frame source and try to remove some of the glitches. I've uploaded it cropped a little wider, because there's some quite interesting architecture in the previously-cropped-out section; the colour does degrade towards the edges, though, so this is a matter of taste - I've also uploaded a tighter crop focusing on the beggars. I don't think, to be honest, that it's a particularly shining example of Prokudin-Gorskii's work; all his colour work is amazing, but this one has a number of glitches and doesn't particularly grab me.
