[edit] King Kelly baseball card, 1888
This is one example from a collection of early baseball cards at the Library of Congress that is still criminally underused on Wikipedia. The cards are available in a middling resolution jpg version and an archival tiff version. Most of the cards used in WP are taken directly from the jpg version. I downloaded the tiff version of this and modified it only slightly: I sharpened the edges using a 0.6 radius and lightened it a bit, and also removed two cases of what I considered lens artifacts. All print and paper defects are uncorrected. My major concern is with the border of the image where the mount is visible. I only cropped the top and lightened a distracting shadow, otherwise I left it untouched. My question is whether this is the best way to deal with it or if whitening might be more appropriate. I recommend looking at the picture in full resolution. For comparison, the jpg version is here.
- I'm also interested in potential uses for this picture outside the King Kelly biography article, as it seems to be an early example of chromolithography and pointillism in graphics (see detail). ~ trialsanderrors 23:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
