[edit] Synopsis
Chiana acquires a strange painting on a trading asteroid--it seems to show a picture of something she has lost. She quickly finds the thing in the painting, but then the painting changes to show her breaking her leg. Shortly thereafter, she does break her leg. It then shows her burning to death. The terrified Chiana tries to destroy the painting, but it just reappears, no matter how violently it is destroyed. Chiana tries to escape her fate by hiding in a cooling unit, but instead, she bursts into flame and is consumed, turned to ash. Other strange things start happening, all predicted by the painting. Then it becomes clear that their old foe, Maldis, has returned, for revenge. Zhaan figures out a way to fight him, though--he's still weak from their previous attack, and she tells Aeryn to kill the trader they got the painting from, as that is a physical manifestation of Maldis. That weakens him, and they are able to destroy him again. The ship returns to normal, with Chiana restored.
