Pico da Neblina is the highest mountain in Brazil, and the highest mountain in Venezuela outside of the Venezuelan Andes. It is also the highest tepui. Neblina is Portuguese and Spanish for fog. The mountain was first ascended in 1965 by members of the Brazilian army.
The northern slopes of the mountain, are protected and form part of the Neblina National Park in Venezuela, the southern slopes are also protected and form part of the "Pico da Neblina National Park" in Brazil. This, together with the neighbouring "Parima-Tapirapeco National Park" (Venezuela) form a protected area complex of about 80,000 km², possibly the largest national park system on tropical rainforests in the world.
At one time the elevation of Pico da Neblina was thought to be 3,014 metres but the most recent measurement puts it at 2,994m.
