Pico Humboldt is Venezuela's second highest peak, at 4,940 meters above the sea level. It is located in the Sierra Nevada Range, Venezuelan Andes (Mérida State). The peak and its surrounding páramos are protected by the Sierra Nevada National Park. Its summit is surrounded by the two largest glaciers out of the five remaining in the country (the other three are in Pico Bolívar). The glaciers on Humboldt Peak (as most glaciers in the tropics) have been receding fast since the 1970s and they are forecasted to melt completely in a couple of decades.
