Pick Up the Pieces

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Pick Up The Pieces" is a 1974 song by the Average White Band from their eponymous album, AWB. It was the group's most successful song, and features one of the most recognizable grooves in funk music. It is essentially an instrumental, apart from the song's title being shouted at several points in the song.

"Pick Up the Pieces" was released in Great Britain on July 1974 but failed to make an impression. When the album was released in America in October 1974, radio stations started to pick up on the song and, on 22nd February 1975, it went to the top of the US singles chart. It then charted in the UK and climbed to number six.

The song was used in the 1980 movie Superman II and the 1996 movie Swingers, as well as the Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy vehicle Bowfinger, released in 1999. The BBC TV series Top Gear used it briefly in the 22nd May 2005 episode. It was used in the 2002 Undercover Brother. It was also performed by the character Hustle Man on the comedy Martin. It was also used in the 2005 comedy "Taxi".
