Pick 'n Pay
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pick 'n Pay is a large supermarket chain store in South Africa. The founder and current chairman of the chain is Raymond Ackerman.
Pick 'n Pay also owns the remaining Franklins supermarkets in Australia, which were sold off by Dairy Farm International Holdings Limited in 2001 after the store's mass-expansion had landed the store in financial trouble. Other Franklins stores were bought by Coles Myer and Woolworths Limited and rebranded under their respective supermarket brands.
In 1986 a Pick 'n Pay Hypermarket was opened in Aspley, Queensland, Australia. It was bought by Coles Myer in the 1990s. In 1998 Coles Myer opened a second store at Sunnybank Hills. This store was originally a Super Kmart store which has been divided into separate Kmart and Coles stores. It is likley that these Pick 'n Pay stores (and the other split Super Kmart stores) will become Coles Supercentres in the future as part of Coles Group's plan to rebrand many of its stores with the Coles name.
