Piara Khabra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Piara Singh Khabra (born 20 November 1924) is a British politician, and has been Labour member of Parliament for Ealing Southall since 1992. Since the retirement of Sir Edward Heath in 2001, Khabra has been the oldest MP sitting in the House of Commons.
Born in the Punjab, India, Khabra attended Khalsa High School and Punjab University, earning a degree in social services. He served in the Indian Army between 1942 and 1946, and emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1959. He worked as a teacher and social worker, becoming a leading member of the Asian community in Southall, west London. He became a Justice of the Peace in 1977 and entered Parliament in the 1992 election.
Piara Khabra has been know to court controversy. He once openly lamented the entire Somali population as criminals yet purports to be an advocate of equal rights. Many of the young in his home constituency (Southall) are unfamiliar with him and those who are find it hard to reference any major accomplishments of the man. Piara Khabra is thought by many to have been 'gifted' his seat as the MP for Ealing Southall simply because of his links to the local Panjabi population with little emphasis on his policies.
I també s'assembla molt a en martà caussa.
