Saw your addition to Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Oregon, and I was going to give you the usual welcome (and, you know, the usual "glad to see another Oregon-based contributor" or something), but then I noticed someone else already had. Oh well, I guess here's another "welcome" anyway. -Seth Mahoney 23:27, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've been here for a while, but have only gotten seriously involved in the last couple weeks. Which has nothing at all to do with the approaching end of term. Oh no. -leigh (φθόγγος) 23:41, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

- No, that would be ridiculous. There must be some other explanation. -Seth Mahoney 06:49, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)

Judaism does not treat abortion as murder, but it is a serious crime. To say that "some Jews" etc etc is too weasly. JFW | T@lk 21:04, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
How do I join your Wikiproject? Just add my name to the list? (Because all I need is another way to waste my time. [Incidentally, I think there should be a stronger term for "wasting time" which would imply that the time was never really available and should have been spent doing something specific, like studying for finals, as opposed to just free time that I squandered.]) --Anakolouthon 21:38, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Yeah. You can add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics and start talking on the Talk page. Or rewriting everything. Or whatever you want. -leigh (φθόγγος) 23:01, Dec 6, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] The Cartoon Vandal
I don't think it's the same person as the Charlie Dog guy; CV never makes comments or responds to comments, just keeps re-adding deleted material or endlessly tweaks it. It's maddening realizing that you've been sucked into an edit war about Alvin and the Chipmunks... :) —tregoweth 16:34, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know we are planning another Seattle meetup on January 15, 2005. We're trying to get a sense of who will attend, so please drop by that page & leave a note. -- Jmabel | Talk 06:49, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Comics
Hello Phthoggos, You posted a message on my talk a couple of weeks ago about your Wikiproject comics. I posted a reply, but i'm not sure you noticed it. If you need some kind of help, check my talk page and tell me what you thing. HNY2K5 Lvr 12:12, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Trolls and vandals
[[Image:Happy pit bull.jpg|thumb|right|Down, boy! Im only trying to help out here.]] - 68.21.4.94
- Please help me to understand what's helpful about adding unverified rumors to various "celebrity" pages, ranging from "Deryck Whibley breaks up with Avril Lavigne" to "Blink-182 is desperate to tour again with No Doubt" to "Dimebag Darrell comes back from the dead." If you are also 68.21.168.26, as you almost certainly are (both IPs are in the same range and owned by the same company, and made similar edits within a day of each other, sometimes to the same article and with similar edit summaries), then you've also added a picture of Slayer's Tom Araya to Mannheim Steamroller, claimed that Rivers Cuomo is dead of three different diseases, and made up quotations from Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Scott Weiland, Adam Levine, James Hetfield, and Nick Hexum. You have an unusual fixation with Africa ([1] [2]), goats ([3] [4]), and pretending your lies are backed up by reputable sources, all the while declaring your enthusiastic innocence. You, sir, are a troll. -leigh (φθόγγος) 19:52, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)
My sources are the gods I visit after huffing random products from under my kitchen sink. After elevating to a higher awareness I report my findings to Wikipedia.
You may want to try this unorthodox path to knowledge. It will help you in college in exponential ways. And think how many interesting and useful contributions you could add to this website. -User:68.21.4.94, 14:59, Jan 5, 2005

[edit] The Iconoclast and Dimebag Darrell
I removed the William Grim reference because the information written there was not true. The article (in the Iconoclast) is very obviously a parody. Just look at the Iconoclast's main page - it is unabashedly a parody site, comparable perhaps to The Onion. This is definitely not encyclopedic information, and has no place in an encyclopedia. -User:Bangadrian, 18:03, Jan 6, 2005
[edit] Bitmap Images
Hey, Leigh. I'm quite a novice when it comes to uploading and converting images and try not to do so unless I really feel it's needed for an article. Anyway, anything of mine you would like to convert into a better format is perfectly OK although I admit I don't know how to do so myself.
I've liked the work you've been doing on a lot of comic book articles --Rorschach567 04:36, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cable and psychic
Well, my primary concern is people unfamiliar with comic books and the subject of "psionic powers," but it's not really something that is important to me if you'd like to change it --Rorschach567 23:41, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Tom19922
On a related note, User:Tom19922 has copied your user page. I'm not sure if there's a precedent for this; just thought you should know... -leigh (φθόγγος) 04:22, Jan 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Ooh, well you know what they say about imitation. Either it's the sincerest form of flattery or it breeds contempt, I always forget which. Thanks for letting me know. --fvw* 04:25, 2005 Jan 17 (UTC)
[edit] Credit for comics creators
I take care to identify the precise issue whenever I add images and add a copyright template tag of some sort; precisely identifying the book cover is sufficient for copyright issues (I have never, thus far, uploaded any image from internal panels of a comic book, which involve more complicated copyright issues than comic book covers). Having said that, I have no objection to you adding more information about artists if you want to do so. —Lowellian (talk) 02:27, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Opeth
Um, you protected the version that says "Pornography" instead of "Videography." -leigh (φθόγγος) 03:42, Jan 19, 2005 (UTC)
- Aww shucks. Still, now that it's protected I'd rather be very careful about consensus editing, I'd rather not edit anything protected without a clear mandate up front, I've proposed it on the talk page and will change it as soon as the consensus for changing it has been at least hinted at. --fvw* 05:09, 2005 Jan 19 (UTC)
Sorry to see you edited my contribution to the Nihilism page; as the longest standing practicioner of the philosophy around here, and someone with my degree already, I think I have something to contribute. Writing it off as "meaningless paragraphery" is kind of juvenile, don't you think? Prozak 23:36, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Rob Liefeld/Commander X
You asked about my source on this character. Info came from a print interview with Louise Simonson, if I remember correctly. Marvel editorial staff was considering ways to improve New Mutants, which had middling sales and no "buzz" at the time, and decided to add "mentor" who was very different from Xavier. "Commander X" was name initially used my editorial staff, but few of them were happy with it.
[edit] I stepped on your toes?
Excuse me, while I don't want to seem contentious but the note you recently posted on my talk page is really offensive. You rewrote much of the material I'd just added, often inaccurately, even though, as you noted, you'd never before heard about some of the things I'd posted. N. Caligon 19:21, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks dude
You're right. I just want to get along with N. Caligon. I can compromise a lot. I know I can't get the whole thing the way I'd like it to be but if I can just lessen the hate in the Liefeld article then I'll be happy. I'm sure you will be seeing more of my name around the comics pages. see ya.--Timrock 12:40, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

21:04 Promethea (diff; hist) . . Phthoggos (Talk) (→Common themes - change "pedantic" to more accurate "didactic")
Did Moore call it didactic? If not, the preceding phrase "by Moore's own admission", may now be misleading.

[edit] Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight
As a member of WikiProject Comics, I thought you might be interested in the Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight we have set up. Please feel free to vote on the articles listed, although bear in mind that a vote for a particular article means you are pledging to help improve the article. The goal of the collaboration is to improve articles to Featured Article status, as we feel Comics is under-represented in that area. Thanks for your help. Steve block talk 15:46, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Comics collaboration
Hi. Forgive the cut and paste briskness of this message, but you voted at the Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight for Comics, which has now become the current collaboration. Please help to improve it in any way you can. First up we have discovered it might be best to discuss improvements on the talk page, and perhaps create a To-do list. Anyway, thanks for your help. [edit] Venom
Hey,
I found your name on the Wikiproject Comics page. I was wondering if you could weigh in on a discussion going on at [5]. I don't have a lot of background knowledge on this stuff, and it seems like I'm standing between two editors, neither of whom really want to give.

[edit] Sentry
Just following the template set out in the Comics Project, which is to list them chronologically no matter their percieved importance. It avoids fights about who's more important than who and provides a more logical reading layout. CovenantD 23:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
It's the third bullet point after the TOC. It's so short I'm not surprised you missed it.
- Fictional character biography
The biography of the character. Filling in the first (or primary, if the "main" version isn't the original) continuity version of the character's history.
That's why DC Comics articles always list their WW II-era heroes first, even if a later version is better know. Oh, and sorry about not leaving an edit summary. This has been a day of missed keys and bad spelling and hitting return too soon and other stupid little error on my part. CovenantD 23:46, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Good point. I'll dig out the issue. I know I've got it here somewhere in all this mess, *grumble* *grumble* CRASH! :- ) Might take me a bit, since "dig" is practically literal! -- Tenebrae 11:13, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject Comics naming conventions
There are several issues which I think desperately need to be discussed/clarified. I started writing it here, but I decided to make it it's own sub-page, for discussion:
Let me know what you think : )
- Jc37 22:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response : )
- Besides your initial question, do you have any other thoughts? I am interested in merging this with the current naming conventions. - Jc37 01:54, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review
A request for a peer review of New Universe has been made at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Peer review/New Universe. I'd appreciate your comments on the article, hopefully it will kickstart the comics project's peer review process. To comment, please add a new section (using ==== [[User:Your name|Your name]] ====
) for your comments, in order to keep multiple responses legible. Steve block Talk 22:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Craig thompson.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Craig thompson.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok ☠ 04:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:X-force50.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:X-force50.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
