From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Photobooks originate from Japan. They are magazine-type books containing glossy photos of currently popular Japanese idols. Photobooks are usually produced by female celebrities, though some are male subject but these are usually less glamorous and feature a variety of types such as gravure (Gravure idol), concert photos or fashion. Some photobooks can be very innocent and playful, yet others can be completely adult in nature. They can contain as few as 15 or as many as 120 photos.

Unique and stylish names are given to them to distinguish the different editions. They are very popular with fans, as it a good source of high quality photos of a popular celebrity. Many times, an idol who is also a musician will release a small photobook with an album or single release.

Photobooks can be purchased online at Asian online stores, but soon after a photobook is released it can already be found for download on the internet. You also may purchase them in Japan.

It is not unusual of Hello! Project and Morning Musume members to produce many books, as they work with attractive young women that easily shoot to idol status.

Storing digital images in traditional photo albums means printed copies and the pages of an album. With photobooks, a real book with its own images and texts can be created. The resulting book is printed on digital color printers and bound.

Professional printing and binding services offer free software for easy creation of photobooks with professional layouts and individual layout capabilities. Because of the integrated design and order workflow, hardcover bound books with customized pictures and text can be produced very cost-effectively. (One of the first German photobook producers is Fotobuch.)
