In the Warhammer series of fantasy fiction, the Phoenix Kings are the rulers of the Elven Isle of Ulthuan. To gain this right they must pass through the Sacred Flame at The Shrine of Asuryan unharmed. As long hair is a symbol of nobility among the Elves most of the Phoenix Kings have been long haired. This is not to say they have been good kings. In fact many long wars have been started by prideful Phoenix Kings. Also, many wars have been stopped by good kings. There have been eleven Phoenix Kings to date.
