From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phosphoproteins are a group of proteins which are chemically bonded to a substance containing phosphoric acid. The category of organic molecules that includes Fc receptors, Ulks, Calcineurins, K chips, and urocortins. Phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of these proteins is carried out by protein kinases and phosphatases respectively. Phosphoproteins are usually involved in signal transduction pathways that underlie many cellular processes.
