[edit] Signatures

Click "preferences" at the top of the screen,

the next screen has a box called "Nickname",
cut and paste the following line into that box
Phil <font color="green">talk</font>
next, check the box "Raw signatures" so it has a green tick in.
see bottom left of screen, click the "Save" button and you're done.

There are notes there to clear the cache for whatever browser you are using, following the appropriate instruction.

If all's well that will make the following: Phil talk

A simpler one:

Phil User talk:Phillipsacp

That will make: Phil User talk:Phil

NB: The talk page 'go to' won't make a live link on this page because we're already here, but will work elsewhere.

I hope you can see how the edit string works there, you can change each element as you see fit except [[User:Phillipsacp| and [[User talk:Phillipsacp| as these are the 'go to' address bits. You can change your nickname and how you want to refer to your talk page.

Please leave a signed message on my talk page after you have done, so I can help you check it works ok, click the green "melmac" on my signature to visit my talk page.

Also from the above, it looks like you're ready for your own sandbox for editing in before putting things in mainspace - click the following red link to make one (or change the word sandbox to whatever you like to call it) - User:Phillipsacp/Sandbox happy editing. If you would like help doing this, all you have to do is ask me! Alf melmac 20:59, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Signature Test

Here it is: [User:Phillipsacp|Phil]] talk 22:31, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Ok you just need to add another [ to the begining. Alf melmac 22:38, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
I am only too happy to help, I do not consider it bugging at all. All live links must have two square brackets before and after the 'go to' address, just add another [ to the very beginning and it should be sorted. Alf melmac 22:59, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

I should mention that external website addresses use only one bracket at either end, so I would have been better to say all internal (wiki) links need whatever you want it to display here, followed by two more brackets-> and all external (external website) links use one. Put a space after the web address and type a description to hide the address and show the description:

 • this: Wikipedia main page
 • displays as this: Wikipedia main page

[edit] Bingo

That last one works fine, both links 'pipe' properly now. I added, excuse my impertinence, a link to your sandbox on your user page, for when these conversations are removed or archived. I also moved the previous version of this page into your sandbox as I wasn't sure if you had done with it. You can obviously delete it if you're done with it. Pleasure to be able to help. Alf melmac 23:23, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

Ooops, did you uncheck the raw signature by mistake, it needs to have a green tick in it. The string is correct, so it must be the raw signature box, it must have a green tick in it, it probably got unticked by mistake. Alf melmac 23:54, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bingo, Bango and Bongo

Well, all's well that ends well, I think it was that little green tick going astray though. Alf melmac 00:32, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Digital image editing

This is very informative and well written. I am very impressed. I originally dropped by to say how nice your history is (the external links on your userpage, which is coming along very nicely, by the way), and noticed your new addition. Your history - it made me laugh and cry, it is an honour to have you with us, sir. Alf melmac 11:43, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

 • How kind of you dear friend. You have made my day. God bless you. I am using the sandbox you made for me and am in the process of writing an article which I entend to name "Image file formats". I am sure I will be calling on you again. Have a wonderful day. Phil talk 13:14, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for the Digital image editing article. I think it's one of the better articles on Wikipedia. Talk:Digital image processing. --DavidCary 00:16, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Windows

Just wondering if you happened to see that I responded to your question at the Wikipedia:Help desk about the page for Windows. Dismas|(talk) 03:29, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Family farm hog pen

You're welcome -- I was talking about my Dad's pigs as well. (He was also an aircraft mechanic - courtesy of Uncle Sam.) He always looked after them and made sure they had the opportunity to be clean and comfortable. Stereotypes are hard to overcome! WBardwin 01:55, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lowrey Organ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Estarriol I have been away from Wiki about six months and have filled my life trying to learn to play the organ. I may initiate a page on Lowrey organs. Estarriol has a fine User Page and has offered to help me. I think he is a good man. Phil talk 20:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
