Recommendations to improve page to featured portal status

List includes recommendations with replies/status.

  • "Quote" should not be 100%, move under "Categories" to fill missing space.
    • Done. The portal guidelines say nothing one way or another about "Quote" sections, leaving their width and location to the discretion of the designers. Trying new location and display layout. Because this portal randomly displays several selected sections, "missing" space varies by display combinations.
  • Clean up DYK section.
    • Done.
  • Convert list in "Introduction" to narrative.
    • Done.
  • Label last group of topics.
    • Done. Labeled "General".
  • Move "Show new selections" into Introduction box.
    • No change. "Show new selections" is a relatively new random display feature. After trying different locations in and below the "Introduction" box, consensus, e.g., at Portal:Cats, was the link was easier to locate by readers below the box.
  • Make header box less pale.
    • Done. Adjusted box-header palette to darker shades. Added bordered page background.
  • Remove "Associated Wikimedia" section.
    • Done.
  • Expand "Things you can do."
    • Done. Added several items.
  • Fix images for 800X600 displays.
    • Done. Reduced some images, adjusted column widths.
  • Even columns.
    • Done. Above fix helped.
  • Adjust footers for 800X600 display.
    • Done. Biography footer shortened.
  • Add as many images as possible, it makes the portal look much better and easier to read:
    • Quotes: If possible, add a little picture of the person you are quoting next to the actual quote
      • No change. Inconsistent with quotes style.
    • Topics: Add the picture of one philosopher on each branch.
      • No change. Excessive.
