Phillip Boyce was a character who appeared in the Star Trek: The Original Series pilot episode "The Cage".
Doctor Phillip Boyce was the chief medical officer aboard the USS Enterprise in 2254, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. When Captain Pike lamented the disastrous away mission on Rigel VII and mused retirement, Boyce thoughtfully suggested Pike stop whining and get over the incident. Boyce not only served the ship in the sickbay, but also acted as the ship's counselor and bartender, a role later emulated by Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Phillip Boyce was played by John Hoyt. In Gene Roddenberry's screenplay for the episode, Boyce is described as 51 years old, suggesting a date of birth of 2203.
