Philles Records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philles Records was a record label formed in 1961 by Phil Spector and Lester Sill. The name of the label is based on the first letters of their first names. In 1962 Spector purchased Sill's stock and became sole owner. Thus, at 21 years of age, Phil Spector became America's youngest label chief. The label topped the charts in 1962 with "He's a Rebel" by The Crystals and in 1965 with "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers.

The label ceased operations in 1967 and Spector did not return for another two years to production work.
